Syed Ali Nasir Saeed Abaqati
Syed Ali Nasir Saeed Abaqati Musavi better known as Agha Roohi, is a leading Shia cleric from Lucknow, India.
Family background
Maulana Syed Ali Nasir Saeed Abaqati a.k.a. Agha Roohi is a Shia scholar from Lucknow, India and hails from the eminent family of Ayatullah Syed Mir Hamid Hussain Musavi whose book `Abaqat al'anwar fi imamat al 'A'immat al'athar is popular among Twelver Shi'a scholars worldwide, and quoted even today .
He belongs to the lineage of Mufti Syed Mohammad Quli Khan Kinturi.,[1][2][3]
His family is renowned and respected in Lucknow, where his father Maulana Syed Mohammad Saeed (Saeed-ul-Millat) and grandfather Maulana Syed Nasir-ul- Millat enjoyed much respect in their lifetimes. His ancestral town is Kintoor, Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh and he traces his lineage to the Prophet of Islam via Imam Musa al-Kazim, hence the name "Musavi".
He is the first cousin of khateeb ul imaan, sher e Hindustan marhoom Tahir Jarwali.
He has two younger brothers Syed Husain Nasir and Maulana Syed Sajjad Nasir Saeed Abaqati. He has two sons Syed Abbas Nasir Saeed Abaqati and Syed Murtaza Nasir Saeed Abaqati and currently resides in the famous Nasirya Library in Lucknow.
At Shia PG College, Nakhas, Victoris Street no3, he recites the Ashra, the ten days majlis to commemorate the Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
Maulana Agha Roohi is an exponent of Tabarra, openly curse the enemies of Hussainiyat , the killers of Hazrat Imam Hussain.
On the 9th Moharam, Maulana Agha Roohi wield the dagger to cut his forehead warning people before hand on the microphone not to snatch it from his hands or suffer consequences.
- In 2006 he was removed from the board of Shia college, Lucknow.[5]
- In February 2006, Agha Roohi in his sermon criticisised Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei for advising the Shia community to avoid reading Hadise Kisa, which the community had been reciting for centuries for peace and protection. He refrained from commenting on India’s vote against Iran at IAEA.[6]
- On 14 November 2010 he along with fellow cleric Kalbe Jawad went to stop the annual meeting of the board of trustees at Shia Post Graduate Degree College at Khadra and were taken into preventive custody when supporters of Maulana Kalbe Jawwad indulged in violence. His arrest provoked protests and riots in the city. He was released after some time and the commotion and riots stopped.[10][11][12][13]
